Pawtucket acquired a big-time pitcher today, as they obtained the services of SP Toby Blasingame from Minnesota. Blasingame has all the skills to be a dominant starting pitcher here in SJW. He's young and raw, but there's no doubt the talent is there. He struggled a bit last season, posting a 5-7 record with an ERA over 5. But give the man time, he will come through.
In the deal, Minnesota gets three players back. Most notably, highly regarded SS prospect Billy Fitzgerald. Fitz may be a season or two away, but he's the real deal. Some question whether or not Fitz can actually play the SS position, but I'm sure Minnesota will find a way to get him into the lineup when he is finally ready. Also coming over to Minnesota in the deal are Gregg Davis and Jeffrey Powell.
