"SHOELESS" JOE JACKSON

.. was an American baseball player who played Major League Baseball in the
early part of the 20th century. He is remembered for his excellent perform-
ance on the field and for his association with the Black Sox Scandal, when members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox participated in a conspiracy to fix
the World Series. Kenesaw Mountain Landis, Major League Baseball's first commissioner, banned Jackson from playing after the 1920 season due to
his alleged involvement in the scandal. But for nearly 85 years, fans have
argued as to whether or not the White Sox legend truly deserves such a
stiff penalty, especially when he was acquitted of any wrong doing.

This world is dedicated to Shoeless Joe.

S8 PLAYOFF ROUNDUP

DIVISION WINNERS

New York (AL East) ... Monterrey (AL South) ... Salem (AL West)

UP FOR GRABS

(AL North) ... Milwaukee (--) ... Trenton (1 GB) ... Cincinnati (1 GB) ... Syracuse (3 GB)

WILD CARD PICTURE

(#1) ... Pawtucket (Clinched)
(#2) ... Richmond (--) ... Vancouver (--) ... Las Vegas (1 GB) ... Trenton (2 GB) ... Cincinnati (2 GB) ... Syracuse (4 GB)

SUMMARY

New York and Salem have been the two most consistent teams in the AL, a major reason why they'll be the #1 and #2 seeds, respectively. Monterrey won the AL South, and their 70s win total have all but guaranteed a #4 seed. The one lone division yet to be decided is the crazy AL North, where all 4 teams are still mathematically alive to win the division. Milwaukee has the slight edge over Trenton and Cincinnati. Syracuse is still hanging in there, but not by much. In the Wild Card picture, Pawtucket has clinched one and a #5 seed. The final spot is still up in the air. Six teams still alive for that final spot, as Richmond and Vancouver have the slight lead. Keep an eye on Las Vegas, as well. Whoever gets hot in the final 5 games of the season will earn a playoff trip. Good luck, fellas.

DIVISION WINNERS

Rochester (NL North) ... Philadelphia (NL East) ... Santa Fe (NL South)

UP FOR GRABS

(NL West) ... Arizona (--) ... Santa Cruz (4 GB)

WILD CARD PICTURE

(#1) ... Boston (--)
(#2) ... San Juan (--) ... Kansas City (5 GB)

SUMMARY

The NL is a little more clear-cut than the AL. Rochester deservedly earns the #1 seed in the NL, as they breezed through the regular season. The #2 seed will be fought between Philadelphia and Santa Fe, as one game separates the two teams. The loser of that battle will more than likely get the #3 seed. The NL West winner will be the #4 seed, where Arizona has the lead over Santa Cruz. Arizona appeared as though they were about to lock the division up with plenty of time to spare. However, Santa Cruz has been hot lately and they could catch Arizona if the Barkleys continue their slide. The Wild Cards are all but decided, as Boston and San Juan look to gain those 2 spots. Kansas City still mathematically alive, but hanging by a small thread. Boston and San Juan will battle it out to see who gets the #5 seed.
