S6 SHOEY AWARDS!!!!

Hello everybody, and welcome to the Shoeless Joe World Shoey Awards for S6. This is the first of what hopes to be many seasons for this award, recognizing owners, teams, and moves that helped establish what Shoeless Joe is today. Our first award is...

BEST TEAM ACQUISITION OF THE YEAR

And the winner is...

Jim Bailes FA Signing!

Jim Bailes FA Signing ..... 15
Hector Rodriguez Trade ..... 11
Terrell McCartin Trade ..... 8
Toby Blasingame Trade ..... 8
Thomas Lee FA Signing ..... 3

Jim Bailes had a monster S6, hitting .343 with 26 HR and 121 RBIs. While making only $6.5M a season, he is arguably considered the steal of the S6 Free Agent market.

COMEBACK TEAM OF THE YEAR

And the winner is...

THE SAN JUAN EXPOS!

San Juan Expos ..... 14
Pawtucket Bombers ..... 10
St. Louis Soul ..... 8
Rochester Mountain Dwellers ..... 7
New York Nippers ..... 6

Back in S5, the San Juan franchise (then in Iowa City) was not very good. They had the worst record in the league, and was a virtual laughing stock. Enter natas46, the bright new owner of the franchise. And literally overnight, he turned the team around. They improved 12 wins from last year's total, and their future looks bright. Plus, they were the winners of the Bobby Reese sweepstakes. This is definitely a team on the rise.

And last, but certainly not least...

OWNER OF THE YEAR

And the winner is...

JWELSH1023!!!

jwelsh1023 ..... 15
m22pank ..... 11
crcummings ..... 8
hwaters397 ..... 6
austinfan1 ..... 5

A landslide winner for Owner of the Year. The Monterrey owner directed his team straight to the top, with a WS win over Little Rock. His shrewd decision making and savvy baseball knowledge led Monterrey to the top prize in all of SJW. Now the question is, do they have enough to do it again???

S6 - Year of the IFA?

Every team who has the available prospect cash waits for the time that a killer International Free Agent is discovered. We've had quite a few of them this season, and they've gone on to sign major deals with various ball clubs. Here are some of the more memorable ones we've had in S6.

ARIEL ROSADO, RIC

Ariel Rosado could end up being one of the best relievers/closers this world has ever had. His excellent control and dominating pitching against both lefties and righties will catapault Rosado right to the majors. It may take a little time, but Richmond is willing to wait for this stud. Every team needs a dominating closer, and Richmond has found theirs.

SANTO RIJO, SAL

Just what Salem needs, another future star. And that's just what they have in Santo Rijo. He's the ultimate contact hitter with power, and he'll do it against any pitcher. He's got decent defense as well, and he'll be Salem's CF of the future. That's right folks, Rijo is that damn good.

LATROY COOK, CHI

Chicago jumped into the IFA pool themselves, as they plucked a good one in LaTroy Cook. He's got power, he's got speed, he does it all. He plays decent enough defense to be considered Chicago's 2B prospect of the future. And he was an absolute steal at $11.1M. A great sign!

ENRIQUE QUIXOTE, AUS

When Austin signed Enrique Quixote, the league knew right away what a special player they had. He may lack the complete range of a SS, but he'll play a dominating 3B. And he has a great bat, especially against righties. Austin's future looks bright, and Quixote is a big part of it.

BARTOLO LEE, PAW

Pawtucket picked themselves up a good one in Bartolo Lee, a future ace for sure. The only knock on Lee is his health, as his history is a bit sketchy, but the talent is there. He's got the pitches and the control. If he stays off the DL, Lee will be a future All-Star.

AL BELLIARD, LAS

Al Belliard is a lot like Lee, except without the great control. He's a definite innings eater, and he's more durable. He's just as effective though, and he's a big part of Las Vegas' pitching rotation of the future.
